The two teams have never faced eachother at this stage. Al Duhail has faced Al Sadd twice and Al Rayyan once in the previous finals.
The confrontation of the two teams was confined to all previous editions of the tournament in the quarter-finals, where Al Duhail faced Al Gharafa three times.
The first confrontation was on Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Grand Hamad Stadium, and ended in a goalless draw, but Al-Gharafa managed to win through penalty kicks 4-3, Bakari Kone, Louise Martin and Karim Boudiaf scored for Al Duhail, while Aruna Dindani and Mohamed Razak missed.
The second match was held on Saturday, May 5, 2012, and ended with Al Gharafa winning two goals to one. Professional player Momoni Dagano scored the goal.
As for the last confrontation, it was on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Grand Hamad Stadium, and it ended with Al Duhail winning by four goals to two. Issara Dia scored two goals for the team, and Sebastian Soria scored two goals.
