Al Duhail Head Coach Christophe Galtier stressed the importance of the upcoming match versus Al Wakrah. In the pre-match press conference held yesterday evening at the club’s press conference hall, the coach said: “We will face a well-organized team. Even with the absence of one of the important players in their team, the defender Lucas Mendes, the team remains distinguished, especially in the defensive aspect. They are characterized by organization on the field and they put pressure on the opponent, which is something we must pay close attention to.”
Regarding the team’s deteriorating results in the recent period, the coach commented: “We are going through a tough period and we are striving to come back again. In the last match, we had several goal scoring opportunities but we did not take advantage of them. However, despite this, we did not lose the match thanks to the brilliance of the goalkeeper Shehab, who prevented the opponent from scoring several times due to the mistakes we committed.”
Galtier continued: “The responsibility for the bad results always goes back to the coach, and that’s logic. I take responsibility to be under pressure instead of the team players because they can play without pressure and perform well.”
He added: “It is difficult to determine the team’s objectives in the coming period, especially since we have come out with negative results in the recent period. The first target for us is to win the next match. With regards to maintaining the league title, it is almost impossible, but the world of football always carries surprises. There is the Amir Cup competition, which qualifies for the participation in the AFC Champions League. Before all this, we are now focusing on our match versus Al Wakrah to regain confidence. Without confidence, we cannot achieve the desired results. To regain confidence, the players must believe in themselves to regain the winning streak again.”
At the end, Galtier concluded: “Congratulations to Al Wakrah former head coach Lopez on winning the AFC Asian Cup title with Qatar national team and for the good work he did for Al Wakrah team. Whenever there is a change of coach, there is a shake, which is natural. However, Al Wakrah is a team with a good level and good players. The current coach is doing a good job with the team.
